After a week of rest and celebration of his Mayakoba win Brian Gay returns to action at the PODS Championship at the Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club in Tampa Bay, Florida. The purse is $5.3 million with the usual 18 percent to the winner ($954,000).
Brian was a leader in last year's event, finishing T4 on rounds of 69-72-66-69=276 and winning $233,200. He tees off Thursday on the Copperhead course at 7:50 a.m. (#1) and Friday at 12:40 p.m. (#10).
Jay Williamson is also in the field, teeing off Thursday at 12:00 p.m. (#1) and Friday at 7:10 a.m. (#10).
One of my students that I have been teaching since he was a kid Monday qualified for The PODS with a 66. Jim Renner (no relation to Jack) will be teeing it up as well .

Great, Drew. I've got Jim added to my customized leaderboard at www.pgatour.com.
Is he playing anywhere else, e.g., the Nationwide Tour -- I see he has some stats there -- or one of the mini-tours?

Mostly mini-tours. He had a top ten (eighth) on the Hooters Tour a few weeks ago. Missing the final stage at q-school by a shot did not leave him with any status. So Monday qualifying will have to do it for awhile.
His opening birdie is a highlight video today on the PGA TOUR's website. Check out his delicate little pitch to the par 5 1st. [You'll have to sit through the commercial the first time 'round. After that, you can replay it without that inconvenience.]
