Irons with a clean look
Looking to get new irons. I know the shaft selction is the more important thing, but this is about the heads. A clean look without excess use of color, logos and such is what I like. Currently play pretty worn-out Mizuno MP-33's & like them a lot.
I am looking at the Mizuno MP-67, but have not yet tried them. (Wish they'd sport only the club number & one logo). I would consider Titleist 695MB if they did not have that red print. I pretty much agree with Hogan Apex, but again number+one logo would be enough. I worship Tiger and really like the Nike forged design, but have issues with the Nike corp - so it won't be Nike. If anyone else is like me (looking for a clean elegant design) please let me know of models to consider not listed above. |

![]() But if you really want some cool blades you should check out some old skool clubs. Maybe some old Hogan Precisions or Personals. Also, the MacGregor VIPs are awesome looking. There are two versions the 67's are the model that Jack did most of his damage with. They actually say VIP by Nicklaus on them. They are beautiful. After Jack bounced from Macgregor to do his on thing, the VIP line continued. The 1990 YIPs are strong too. The Miurfield MacGregors (I have a set) are some of the most beautiful satin knives I have ever laid eyes on. You can actually purchase a square groove model. The Greg Norman COBRA blades are awesome looking too. Just check ebay. You can get these older clubs in good shape alot cheaper than new clubs. IMO the design characteristics haven't change too much on blades. If you get the right shaft in them you'll love 'em. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another good place to see some beautiful clubs is www.houseofforged.com. They actually refurbish and rechrome old irons. They have some beauties out there for sale. |

TourSpecGolf will order them for U.S. customers: www.tourspecgolf.com . I've done business with Chris and he is honest and has sold a lot of Japan-only equipment through his website and on Ebay under the same name. TSG has a forum that should still have pictures of custom sets posted. |

Metallion,
Check out the Srixon Pro-100's!!! I've put them in my bag and I love them. I played MP-33's in the past. These play very similar in my opinnion, but with a very clean pleasing look. Copy and Paste this link to check them out...... http://www.srixon.com/club_irons.html Sorting Through the Golf Nut's Catalog. B. Ray |

As part of this relationship, I was given a tour of their factory located in Albany, Georgia. They had a custom option on the irons that allowed me to have absolutely nothing stamped on the blades except my initials...just a pure, satin back with the club number on the sole. Maybe such an option is available through the custom club department of the major manufacturers today. But I wouldn't hold my breath! P.S. The fellow kneeling with his back to the camera is Tim Rash, then a 5-handicapper who attended that winter school. He took to the training like a fish to water, and that summer won the Richmond (Virginia) City Amateur Championship. Straight up...no strokes. He wasn't a '5' anymore! |

I remember that MacGregor about 3 or 4 years ago had a custom deal where they would put different grinds on your irons. You could totally customize the set with regards to swing weights and leading edge configurations and all kinds of stuff. It was pretty cool. I don't think it ever took off. Too bad. Love seeing all this "vintage" stuff! Thanks for sharing! I spoke with my buddy who plays with Rash . . . He's still playing great! |
I thought it was Hank Stram. :eyes:
