It has surprised me that there have not been more attempts to analyse the sound of impact scientifically...

I have seen published research into putters and balls and impact sounds....because sound is a key factor for players impression of feel... i think the ball manufacturers do this research etc...

There have always been some golfers who just made better sounds...Hogan etc...

Obviously variables such as clubhead speed, head materials and design, ball material and design etc...

But even when irons were solid and irons, balls were balata ...Hogan still had a sound... many used his brand of balls and clubs and did not produce that sound...surely speed is not the only variable that impact... impact geometry also seems critical.

I am not musically inclined but I can imagine that it must be possible to electronicaly record a signature of a real compression impact... which would have signature qualities irrespective of swing speed...maybe speed just increases amplitude of signal rather than pattern...

Any thoughts from musical types?
