Please see my response in Yoda's Corner: Still Fanatic (After All These Years). The column can be accessed from the Home Page or from its Forum under The 19th Hole or by clicking on http://www.lynnblakegolf.com/forum/s...ead.php?t=1834 . Further discussion on this subject should be in that thread.

Takeaway Differences: To Lag Or Not To Lag
I received a Private Message this evening asking if the Right Forearm Takeaway was applicable to the Swinger. I replied in the affirmative with the caveat that the Swinger typically uses the Lagging Clubhead Takeaway (and 'Swings' the Club away) while the Hitter uses the Non-Lagging version (and 'Carries' the Club away).

As is frequently the case, my answers inspire more questions! This one was no exception, and I am posting his follow-up and my response in this forum.

Teach,

The Lagging and Non-Lagging Clubhead Takeaways are referenced in the as-yet-unpublished 7th edition. In the classic address, the Left Wrist is Bent and the Hands are already Leading the Clubhead as it is 'Swung' away from the Ball. Centrifugal Force is the primary driver of the action.

The Hitter, on the other hand, typically sets up with the Hands in Impact Location, and the Clubhead is now leading the Hands into the Backstroke. Hence, the term 'Non-lagging Clubhead.' However, even when the Hitter starts from the Classic Bent Left Wrist Address, he still uses the Right Elbow to actively raise the Left Arm and to Cock the Left Wrist. There is no 'Swinging' of Centrifugal Force involved...only the 'Carryback' Motion of muscular effort.
