Let's not exclude one of the most famous PGA names that studies TGM...Steve Elkington tied for 3rd!!!!
Long live TGM!!!
It gets better, Trane.
How 'bout...
Heath Slocum.
Also T-3 at -4 and student of LBG Professional Contributor, Mark Backburn, GSEM. Making room in his busy travel schedule, Mark is scheduled to be at the LBG Instructors Academy at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida, December 11-13.
Congrats all 'round!
As a comment on the overall goin's on, indulge me, please, in this this reminiscence from my personal 60-year history. From the hit musical, West Side Story which opened on Broadway when I was eleven years old:
SOMETHING'S COMING
Could be!
Who knows?
There's something due any day;
I will know right away,
Soon as it shows.
It may come cannonballing down through the sky,
Gleam in its eye,
Bright as a rose!
Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Under a tree.
I got a feeling there's a miracle due,
Gonna come true,
Coming to me!
Could it be? Yes, it could.
Something's coming, something good,
If I can wait!
Something's coming, I don't know what it is,
But it is
Gonna be great!
With a click, with a shock,
Phone'll jingle, door'll knock,
Open the latch!
Something's coming, don't know when, but it's soon;
Catch the moon,
One-handed catch!
Around the corner,
Or whistling down the river,
Come on, deliver
To me!
Will it be? Yes, it will.
Maybe just by holding still,
It'll be there!
Come on, something, come on in, don't be shy,
Meet a guy,
Pull up a chair!
The air is humming,
And something great is coming!
Who knows?
It's only just out of reach,
Down the block, on a beach,
Maybe tonight . . .
Heath Slocum is a player I follow closely, he has a solid swing, personality and short game. He also showed a lot of grit by grinding out 3 wins on the Nationwide Tour in 2002 to earn a battlefield promotion. All this after battling a serious illness early in his career.
He reminds me of a "poor man's" David Toms. I wish him continued success, as I do all of the "machineheads" out there.
The last win by a high profile TGM player was on the 26th of September 1982, at the Southern Open where Bobby Clampett won with a score of 14-under-par.

24 years on, could Brian Gay be the next?
I have a feeling...
Really the last win by a high profile TGM player was Jodie Mudd....in fact he won two top tournaments that year....the "Players Championship" and "The Tour Championship" (which was called the Nabisco Championships). The following year Jodie shot a 63 at the British Open...one of a few players to shot a 63 on Sunday at the Open. Also, in 1991, Jodie was voted number 2 to either Tom Purtzer or Steve Elkington for the best swing on tour.

Brian has picked up where he left off yesterday. Starting on #10, he's two-under after three, putting him at -9 for the tournament and the leader by three. http://pgatour.com/scoring/leaderboard/r
