Back in the days of being in the business I had a customer, very good amateur player, who wanted the ribs on the top so his thumbs were on either side.

He was and continues to be. He is not only a nutbar, but add huge sandbagger into the mix.
C'mon O.B., just try it on one of your clubs. You might like it. It is a lot easier to get the rib consistently positioned with the rib on top. An added benefit is having the label under the shaft so you don't have to look at it. Unfortunately, I cannot think of anymore benefits of such a wacko idea.
By the way, he also had me put his putter grip on 5 cents open.

OK, Ill give it a shot JerryG and let you know. This could be big. (maybe)

But , dont ever explain Grip Rotation (7-2) to your bud , he might lose his mind with the golf grip alignments needed for the different clubs. Thats what happened to me.
