speed testing and new personal bests
I guess this is the most appropriate place for this thread. Here, The Lab, Basic, Advanced, who knows.?.?

The summary version of the story is this:

One of my students, Richard, has made great progress in changing his Swing. His geometry is soooooooo much better. We've been out to play a few times, and he's been more than disappointed with his distance. Keep in mind that we've made him play from 7500 yards a couple of times, and he was not ready for that part. It doesn't help matters that I've had some of my best driving days when we played, so he's a little tough on himself.

Because his Plane has improved so much, we are in the process of improving the physics. We've done some experimental things, drills with dowels, impact bags, chains, etc. to build speed. And, we've seen some results. He started with driver speeds between 85 mph and 94 mph. Recently, we've topped out at 104 when hitting a ball. It's been a huge breakthrough for him. Here's the interesting part...he has achieved speeds between 112 and 118 with a 3/4 inch dowel and an impact bag. So, we're still working on achieving similar speeds between the club and the dowel.

When I first tested myself, my speeds were 115 with both the driver and the dowel. It was about what I had expected, as my speeds are typically around 112 to 115 with the driver. Today (about one week later), we saw something that I've never seen. Richard asked me to Hit a few. He wanted me to get the highest speeds that I could with the dowel, then the club. My highest speed with the dowel was 126, and my next drive was an astounding 124 mph!! I've never been in the 120's. And, I was able to capture a drive on video at 123 mph.

Even with the little time that I had spent in doing the demonstrations, I picked up considerable change in my own speeds. We're going to keep going to see how much change each of us can accomplish.

We're both looking forward to the next few weeks. Is 130 mph possible for an overweight, 38 year old, Hitter? We'll see.
