My ball striking has improved dramatically after only a few range sessions. I know I'm striking the ball on the sweetspot with excellent Horz. Hinge Action. However, the impact sound is mushy. Is that because the balls I'm hitting have been hit for two years and thousands of times? Or, is it because I'm hitting off a Matt? Or Both?

Check to see if you are hitting the sweetspot. Use tape or powder and check. The sound should be loud and crisp. People will turn and look over at you. Matts are a problem if you hit fat and slide into the ball. Go hit balls in a bunker.

I'm puring it. It's got to be the balls. I'm horizontal Hinging tightly over a 4 foot length, 2 feet before and 2 feet after. If you can't crack the ball with that, then it's gotta be the ball.

Go in a bunker, ala Ben Doyle and double check impact. The Bunker will tell you rather cruely if you are making solid impact through the ball or striking sand first. Can't hurt. Then go bring your ball brand on a golf course he hit some. And don't think an angled hinge can't produce a loud and solid impact. Its the circle not the hinge motion. Practice "Yoda's Secret", this small angled hinge motion will attract a crowd. Even old wound balls will bark
I hear ya. You must be right. There's no other explanation. Ball flight doesn't paint the whole picture.
I don't have sand available. 23 degrees today. My only choice has been an indoor range. I must not be perfectly striking the ball first. Today, I'll drive it into the Matt.
