How much time have you been spending with Neal? Just out of curiousity?

Not a whole lot. But maybe enough.

Specifically, we worked two hours on April 18th at the Athens Regional Foundation Classic at Jennings Mill CC in Athens, Georgia. And about an hour on May 18th at the AT&T Classic at Sugarloaf CC in Atlanta.

When I walked up to him that late Friday afternoon at Sugarloaf, he was doing a quite obvious imitation of a certain swing methodolgy that was just out in Golf Digest. He was tilting way left and lowering his head on the backstroke, then 'standing up' on the downstroke. I asked him if he had been swinging 'that way.'

Neal: "Naah...just read the article and thought I'd try it. Might be good into the wind."

Lynn: "What about what we worked on at Jennings Mill? Especially staying on track by tracing a straight plane line. 'Line-to-line,' remember?"

Neal: "Yeah, that's right, Lynn! Line-to-line! That's how I learned as a kid. I never had a lesson until I got on tour. That's the way I played my best."

Lynn: "Show me."

And for the next half hour, he did.

Then I watched him putt a little.

That weekend, Neal Lancaster went out and shot 70-69 (5-under), finished T24 and earned $43,740, his best tournament in more than two years.

Go figure.
