Yep, I read this article yesterday as well. I am at a point where I feel sorry for him---he is really a sick man.

Not sick, an arrogant jerk. We have fallen for all the crap we have been fed over the years from the Tiger PR machine. He is another athlete that has shown his true character. Golfers have always been treated differently by the media. Now golf is the same as the other pro sports, the pro game's identity has been shown to be a fraud. This is not an illness, not alcoholism or addiction. This is a guy saying he can do whatever he wants because he is the most important thing in his world.

Assuming this is true . . . and where there's smoke . . .and there's smoke of mushroom cloud proportions . . . I agree . . . you got Tiger Woods and you got Eldrick Woods. Tiger = Hoax. I took the bait hook line and sinker. It takes a pretty rotten self absorbed cat to do that to his kids . . . and in the mean time pimp this Tiger Idol thing on the world. They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made . . . hype implodes.

Ya, I feel the same way, like I just realized how I'd been lied to or something and as always its accompanied by the thought that I was being naive in the first place. This aint anything new is it? Wasnt Babe Ruth sort of like Tiger and Daly combined while selling candy bars to kids? This whole thing might say as much about us, our Western society, as it does about Tiger. What are our expectations of these guys? Why do we value these guys so highly? So Tiger is a jerk, didnt we sense that already? Didnt his parents seem kind of odd? Didnt he kind of look like a kid who picked his nose and ate it? Dont get me wrong I love the guys game, his swing. If he changed putters I'd be the first to try to figure why, how etc. Until now Ive been supporting Tiger better than a bra does some of his girlfriends.

This past summer I went to a golf tournament for the first time in about twenty years. Jacks tourney in Columbus. I loved it and want to go back but I was really taken back by how things had changed. The fans were like a drunken mob that the players dare not look at. The players aloof or maybe trying to zone the fans out. I wasnt sure whose behaviour was worse but I didnt like it. Maybe Im just getting old. Kenny Perry and Ernie seemed like great guys despite the bs. They're fighting a good fight there.

Tiger has transcended golf, as his dad predicted, he is now a celebrity. Brad and Angelina, Tiger and whoever. Maybe the USGA and Bobby Jones were right, professional golf is a vulgar proposition. Of course some say Bobby retired after the Grand Slam and some say he retired to profit from the Grand Slam. Only his hair dresser and Spalding Sporting Goods know for sure.

Me I love the Brendan Shanahan response when discovering your hero is not worthy of your adulation.

Loose lips sink ships
As far as Tiger is concerned I crossed him off my hero-worthy list back in 1998...Tour Championship I believe. When he could not restrain himself from a salvo of expletitives with Tiny Tim & co. within earshot I knew that he was not aware that he owed Tiny Tim tamer adjectives. When a father growled something to that effect he got a glare from Fluff and was tarred and feathered by the surrounding mob.Few can live under the strain of my standards for moral impropriety!

I agree with the above to a certain extent . . . however . . . Eldrick & Co. Inc. sold that he was BIGGER than any athlete because he transcended race and via sport would eventual trascend politics etc. I never believed that garbage. I thought he was human . . . but THIS AIN'T HUMAN. I mean going to a strip joint . . . human . . . getting drunk . . . human . . . helping a confused goat over a fence . . . human . . . maybe even cheating one time on your ole lady . . . human . . . looking at pawno . . . human . . . this junk IF TRUE . . . is BEYOND . . . he transcended alright. Can you imagine some of the suit types that were probably at these parties rolling out after a big "how can we market Tiger's image" . . . "Dude, can you BELIEVE what a sales job we've pulled on the ENTIRE WORLD?? . . . and now we're hanging with MODELS that want to do us!!!"

Tiger has probably screwed the pooch for a bunch of athlete poltician types . . . I bet that's why these skanks are hiring lawyers . . . this probably runs deeeeeeeeeeeeeep into the set he rolled with. Could be more celeb types pulled into this crap storm.

I am going to take the other side for my own reasons. Tiger did what he did and truthfully that part is between him and his family. As far as golf goes I am not going to miss out on what the best golfer on the planet is going to do in the future on the course just because, he shagged some skanky home wreckers that knew he was married with children. I see it being dual fault of Tiger and the other women and Tiger is a guy so, guys don't think like girls do and have a need to do stupid things.

As far as the meds go he had a prescription for both having trouble sleeping because his knee has been giving him some stiffness troubles and the Vicodin is probably to help relax it. No really any wrong there and if he drinks so what lots of people drink.

Everyone said Tiger would do something special and change the World in ways no other has. Maybe the change is how many skanky dirty legs he has shagged and letting people know its okay to go Ugly! or Maybe, it is to show that not even the greatest athletes are perfect and untouchable! I think Tiger will first get his family orders in check then, gain back the fan base by playing events he has not played before or only once since he turned professional. If you look at Tigers face book page and his website the membership has increased 10 folds since the "Transgression's". Unlikely Tiger will be big with the righteous breed of perfect people but, hey! News Flash, Not Tiger, Gandhi, JFK, Alexander The Great, Billy Graham or any other person that has walked this EARTH is perfect with out Sin!

For the record my comments were coming from a "I can't believe how naive I am sometimes" perspective. I honour Bobby Jones achievements and early retirement for instance. I also see this whole Tiger thing as being a benchmark in the evolution of the sports journalism, maybe journalism in general. Let me explain.

Fifty years ago, heck two years ago for that matter, the press wouldnt have run with a story like this. There probably isnt a sports journalist alive or dead that didnt have a ton, an evenings full, of stories about the transgressions of sports heros. The rule of thumb being if it wasnt illegal or perhaps I should say, if the cops werent actually called you didnt go with the story. In return the scribes were allowed into the players inner sanctums, be they bars or locker rooms. Like a traveling circus they co existed under these rules. Now the advent of the TMZ's and similar websites changes everything. The Boston Heralds or New York Times are running with stories referenced from TMZ or the blog that Bucket linked us to. Everything is backwards. The beat sports reporters are on the horns of a dilemma right now I bet. Their papers would go with a story but they arent that type of journalist. TMZ doesnt cover the sport they just pay off limo drivers for shag stories. I havent been watching TGC so I dont know what they're doing but if they're covering it , I bet they are not leading the pack but rather following other sources leads and without Rick Lerner or anyone else who hangs with tour doing the coverage. I may be wrong but ........... the apple cart is upside down.

Tigers behaviour sadly, disgustingly, is nothing new for a superstar. We just didnt hear about the other stuff. He is on the back nine of his list of girlfriends maybe but way, way behind some others who preceded him on tour. Guys we still admire, I'd venture. Does this excuse Tiger? No but he lives in different times.

Its interesting to me why we care, why I feel so offended by his actions. Is it really just the hypocrisy of his media image? I honestly dont know if thats what bugging me. I'm trying to figure it out. I'm interested in what you guys think. I'm also trying to remember. He told me the Nike balls were great, that Gillette was a good shave, maybe I missed something. Jimmy Swaggert or those of that ilk, I remember their hypocrisy quite well. No problem there. Tiger's hypocrisy Im not so sure about. Did he speak directly to us about his moral fiber. Fiber cereal maybe. Maybe Im forgetting something. It was his Dad and Mom that came out with the BS about transcendence wasnt it? That was crazy talk. I can only imagine what that would do to a kids head.

Being the best at a sport does not mean anything other than you are the best at that sport. There shouldnt be any automatic "good guy", stature. Tiger is the first to be outed for sins that werent before the courts. Why do we feel so offended? The guys a jerk so what?

Do we morn the loss of our old naive fantasy image of Tiger Woods? Is that what it is?
